history We are a public, community organization founded over 80 years ago dedicated to the singing of male choral music. Our musical performance style is typical of a college male glee club. We perform two public concerts annually for the Kalamazoo Community: a Christmas concert in December and a spring concert in April. For many years we have sung Christmas carols at the local hospitals in December, bringing smiles to many faces. We also perform locally upon specific request. The Kalamazoo Male Chorus is a member of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association and participates in its Big Sing each spring. At these events each of the eleven member choruses performs a number or two individually and then joins together for several songs as one mass chorus of over 250 male voices. It is quite a sound to behold. We are under the directorship of Michael Palmer. We rehearse from September thru April on Tuesday evenings from 7 – 9 pm in the choir room at the Maple Street Magnet Middle School, 922 West Maple Street, in Kalamazoo, MI. We share camaraderie, fellowship and fun while working together to learn varied music for public presentation and enjoyment. We derive our support from membership dues, concert free-will offerings, public support contributions and generous support from the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation. The Irving S. Gilmore Foundation grant allows us to recruit local college students to participate in our scholarship program which grants each student $1,000 for the year or $500 for each semester as an extension of their educational growth and experience.
